What this tool does
NSW Foundation Style is the handwriting model taught in New South Wales schools: sloped letters that children first learn unjoined and later join. This page opens with letters modelled on that style, on A4, ready for your own words: a week's spelling list, a sentence from your class book, or the alphabet. Each line you type becomes one practice block: Trace prints every row in light grey, Trace + write gives one grey row and then empty rows, and Copy gives one dark model row to copy from. Long lines wrap by whole words, a block never splits across pages, and the preview is the exact sheet that prints.
How to use it
- 1Type your words
One line per practice block: a spelling list, a sentence, or a row of letters. The presets fill in the alphabet, a-z, 0-20 or the days of the week.
- 2Choose the support
Trace for first attempts, Trace + write for most practice, Copy once children can manage on their own.
- 3Print at actual size
Choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog so the line height stays exactly as set.
FAQ
- Will the letters match the NSW Foundation Style chart exactly?
- Closely, but not perfectly. The letters come from Playwrite AU NSW, an open-licence font designed from the NSW model, not the department's own font. A few letters may differ in small details, so check against your school's chart for formal assessment sheets.
- Can I make joined NSW handwriting sheets?
- Yes. Switch on Join the letters and the same letters join, for students who have moved on to joined writing.
- Is anything I type uploaded?
- No. The sheet is drawn in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
