What this tool does
Victorian Modern Cursive is the handwriting model used in Victorian schools. Its letters carry small exit strokes from the beginning, so children move into joined writing without relearning the letter shapes. This page opens with letters modelled on Victorian Modern Cursive, unjoined, on A4. Switch joining on when your class is ready. Each line you type becomes one practice block: Trace prints every row in light grey, Trace + write gives one grey row and then empty rows, and Copy gives one dark model row to copy from. Long lines wrap by whole words, a block never splits across pages, and the preview is the exact sheet that prints.
How to use it
- 1Type your words
One line per practice block: a spelling list, a sentence, or a row of letters. The presets fill in the alphabet, a-z, 0-20 or the days of the week.
- 2Choose the support
Trace for first attempts, Trace + write for most practice, Copy once children can manage on their own.
- 3Print at actual size
Choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog so the line height stays exactly as set.
FAQ
- Is this the official Victorian Modern Cursive font?
- No. It is Playwrite AU VIC, an open-licence font designed from the Victorian model. It is close enough for everyday practice, but a few letters may differ in small details from the Department of Education's chart.
- Should my Foundation class see joined or unjoined letters?
- Most classes start with the letters unjoined but keep the exit strokes, which is how this page opens. Switch on Join the letters for students who are already joining.
- Is anything I type uploaded?
- No. The sheet is drawn in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
